The TJ Certificate Program at UMass Dartmouth, UMass Law and Massasoit Community College is an inter-collegiate collaboration of students, faculty, and staff working together to transform justice on their campuses.

Throughout Summer 2021, we have gathered information about experiences of harm and justice on each campus, learned about transformative justice and how it is being practiced nationally and regionally. We are now working on a curriculum for a Transformative Justice Certificate Program. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, we envision that this cross-campus intergenerational collaboration will strengthen the foundations of care, support, and solidarity amongst Southeastern Massachusetts’ campus communities.

 

What is Transformative Justice?

Transformative JusticeĀ (TJ) is a political framework and approach for responding to violence, harm and abuse. At its most basic, it seeks to respond to violence without creating more violence and/or engaging in harm reduction to lessen the violence. TJ seeks to transform the conditions that make harm possible within communities and spaces
